Skills for Care and Development

Skills for Care and Development is an alliance of five organisations representing 60,000 employers and 2.5 million workers in the social care and children’s workforce in the UK.

The sector footprint covers social care and children’s services including; residential and day care, services for children and adults, domiciliary care and support services, social work, fostering and adoption services, nurseries and childminding, voluntary and charitable care.

The aim is for the workforce to be recognised by the public and by stakeholders as a modern workforce with high standards of skills and competency to secure the wellbeing of social care service users and carers.

Lantra

Lantra’s vision is of an environmental and land-based sector made up of sustainable, innovative businesses that are recognised as critical contributors to the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of the Welsh economy.

The sector’s industries include Agricultural crops, agricultural livestock, animal care, animal technology, aquaculture, environmental conservation, equine, farriery, fencing, fisheries management, floristry, game and wildlife management, land-based engineering, landscape, production horticulture, trees and timber and veterinary nursing.

Lantra is working with the Welsh Assembly Government and partners to drive forward the skills and business development agenda in Wales, working towards making skills provision, advice, guidance and funding more demand led, building on the foundations for a more sustainable future.

SEMTA

SEMTA is working to ensure that the Science, Engineering & Manufacturing Technologies sector in Wales has the knowledge and skills required to meet the challenges faced by the workforce of the future.

The sector’s industries include: Aerospace, Aviation, Automotive, Biotechnology/Nanotechnology, Electronic, Electrical, Forensic Science, Maintenance, Marine, Mathematics, Mechanical, Engineered Metal Products, and Science.

SEMTA in Wales works towards its mission and vision by developing and working with High Performance Companies (HPC), providing support structures for Individual Skill Sets, Working within an Education, Training and Learning Progression Model, and raising the profile of Corporate Responsibility.

Asset Skills Cymru

Asset Skills is the Sector Skills Council for the Property, Housing, Cleaning and Facilities Management industries, that spans a mixed economy of private, public, not for profit and voluntary organisations and businesses across the UK.

The main business focuses on marinating and developing the built environment for the benefit of employers, individuals, residents and communities. The key industry drivers are regeneration, sustainable development, communities, the housing market, private finance initiatives and public-private partnerships, the relationship between people and the environment, and information technology.

SummitSkills

Raising Welsh company productivity and profitability in the Building, Services and Engineering sector are at the core of SummitSkills’ Wales agenda. It strives to establish good labour market intelligence relating to skills and training and company performance.

SummitSkills is working in conjunction with other organisation to establish bespoke regional employment needs and respond accordingly in the principality, to devise a collective and strategic approach to tackle relevant issues and to promote student skills competitions on a national and regional basis.

SummitSkills is establishing Employer Forums to encompass the three sectors in Wales to establish the needs and aspirations of the Welsh workforce and has developed a career helpline.

ConstructionSkills

ConstructionSkills became the Sector Skills Council for the construction industry in September 2003, and has a five year licence to operate. It covers the whole industry from craft trades through to the professional occupations.

The vision of a construction industry in Wales that is fully qualified, highly professional and working safely to deliver outstanding value has come a step closer with the launch of the ConstructionSkills Sector Skills Agreement. The SSA focuses on qualifying the existing workforce, recruiting qualified entrants, improving business and performance, ensuring that infrastructure exists to support industry priorities, and sustainability and the environment.
